RIDOT restricting traffic on Randall Street in Providence

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today is restricting traffic on Randall Street in Providence to one-way westbound due to deterioration of a bridge joint on the Randall Street Bridge. Randall Street connects North Main Street and Charles Street, with a portion of the road crossing a short bridge over the Moshassuck River.
Northbound traffic on Charles Street should use Corliss Street to Industrial Drive to reach North Main Street. Southbound traffic on Charles Street should pass Randall Street and turn left onto Smith Street to reach North Main Street.
RIDOT is coordinating with the City of Providence to repair the bridge joint as quickly as possible, however an expected winter storm on Friday followed by a severe cold snap could delay the work.
RIDOT is planning to begin a project in late 2011 to rehabilitate the 95-year-old Randall Street Bridge. In March 2009, RIDOT closed one lane of travel westbound due to deterioration discovered during a bridge inspection.
Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT’s Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information will be available on RIDOT’s website (www.dot.ri.gov) and its social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Blogger.
